"You Gave me Life" - The Story Behind the Song
YOU GAVE ME LIFE
During my Mother-in-law’s battle with cancer, the decision was made to put her on morphine to ease her suffering. Unfortunately by the time my wife was able to be by her Mother’s side it was too late. She was already incoherent. She was resting peacefully, but my wife was hoping for one last chance to speak to her Mother. To thank her maybe. To say good bye. To let her know how inspirational she was. I don’t know, but I do know, missing the opportunity for one last conversation with her Mother has left a giant hole in my wife’s heart.
This song is about being at peace with the death of the ones we’ve lost in our lives.
The song is made up of 4 verses and a lyrical bridge but no chorus. The title comes from the end of the out verse “You Gave Me Life”
The verses like this, the first verse, are all reminders. The things we see that remind us of the person we lost, followed by a comforting statement.
“I feel your grace in the warming sun
Beating down through wind and rain
I take comfort knowing you were loved
Angels are watching
They're watching”
Song Art and Lyrics Below:

You Gave Me Life
I feel your grace in the warming sun
Beating down through wind and rain
I take comfort knowing you were loved
Angels are watching
They're watching
In the moments you fill my head
And I feel the emptiness
I'm relieved when I close my eyes at night
I know you're safe
You're safe
You were brightest when you smiled
As I sat by your side
I wish I got to say go bye
In my mind You're not forgotten
Is there a place where we can go
There're still things I need from you
And I'm terified that I might forget
All the memmories
The memories
I walk through the field of neglect
That's where I stop to take a breath
You show me the most beautiful sky
You gave me life
Your life
You gave me life
You gave me life
My life
