"Green Mountain Mind" - The Story Behind the Song

GREEN MOUNTAIN MIND

Everyone has their happy place. A place where a feeling of peacefulness washes over their entire body. A spot at the side of a flowing river, a quiet room in their house or the town that they spent their college years in. The location might be different for each of us but the feeling of comfort is the same.

This is a song about that feeling and for Brian Piper that feeling comes when he’s in Vermont.

I’ve been to Vermont myself many times and I can certainly understand why he feels this way. Brian wrote the music to this song during one of his trips to Vermont and together we worked out the lyrics to pay homage to his emotional attachment.

The verses are all tiny reminders of the state’s beauty which leads us in to the chorus where we describe the feeling of comfort.

“I can fly, I’m so high - Green Mountain Mind”

Song Art and Lyrics Below:

Green Mountain Mind

Well I have lived woah I have loved
That’s why I praise our good lord above
But the things I’ve seen the places I’ve been
There’s nothing like the hills in Sunderland.

I’m heading north on the Thruway I’ve got Vermont in me

(Chorus)
Oooh I can fly I’m so high
Green Mountain Mind
yeah that’s where I write what I feel inside.
Green Mountain Mind

I have lost and I have pledged
I took a walked aloooong an uncertain edge
I stayed on course and I took the ride
So I can get back up to Skyline Drive

There’s something in those mountains something that talks to me
(chorus)
(bridge)

I have chanced and baby I have won
I lived my life as well as anyone
When I lay to sleep till the time wake
I dream about those clear Green Mountain lakes

Its is where my heart is   where it opens up to me

(chorus)

I can write and I... I can sing I feel
Like I can do all most any thing.
I feel free and that’s what I need cause those
Those Green Mountains they believe in me
