"Simple Man" - The Story Behind the Song
SIMPLE MAN
This song is a bit complicated. Unlike most men. Lol.
The verses all describe the things the guy in this story doesn’t need, the things he won’t do and the things he doesn’t won’t.
He is solidifying his love and his devotion to his wife by sharing these thoughts. The only thing he needs is her. As the chorus states - He’s a simple man with a simple plan. He’s going to love her all he can.
The reason he feels the need to point these things out to her is because he’s an alcoholic. He’s trying to save his marriage and he needs her to know although he drinks he’s not a bad guy.
This song is not a confession of his love it’s an apology to her.
Song Art and Lyrics Below:

Simple Man
I can't live another man's life
I don't love any another man's wife
I won't wear another man's clothes
And I don't Know what any another man knows
I don't want another man's home
I won't sit on another man's throne
I can't drive another man's ride
Cause I don't have just any other man's pride
I don't know if it's wrong or right
I stay home drinkin all night
I'm a simple man with a simple plan
I'm gonna love all I can
I won't walk in another man's shoes
I won't pay other man's dues
I don't want another man's dreams
Cause I don't need what any other man needs
(chorus)
(solo)
(chorus)
I don't need another man's cash
I won't smoke another mans ash
I can't sing another man's blue
But I might drink some other man's boose
I don't know if it's wrong or right
I stay in drinkin all night
I admit I'm not the the perfect man
But I'm gonna love all I can
